Frequently Asked Questions
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation and focused attention to help create positive changes in thoughts, feelings and behaviours. During hypnosis, you enter a natural state of focused awareness that allows you to become more receptive to positive suggestions and new ways of thinking.
Will I lose control during hypnosis?
No. This is one of the most common misconceptions about hypnosis. You remain aware of what is happening and are always in control throughout the session. You cannot be made to do anything against your wishes or values.
Will I be asleep?
No. Despite the name "hypnosis", you are not asleep. Most people describe the experience as feeling deeply relaxed whilst remaining aware of their surroundings and able to communicate if they wish.
Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
No. Hypnosis is a natural state that people move in and out of every day. You cannot become stuck in hypnosis and will return to your normal level of awareness naturally at the end of the session.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Everyone experiences hypnosis slightly differently. Most people describe it as a pleasant state of relaxation where the mind feels calm and focused. Some people feel very relaxed physically, while others simply notice a sense of mental calmness.
What can hypnotherapy help with?
Hypnotherapy may be helpful for a wide range of issues, including:
Anxiety and stress
Confidence and self-esteem
Smoking cessation
Fears and phobias
Weight management
Sleep difficulties
Motivation and performance
Habits and behavioural change
If you are unsure whether hypnotherapy may be suitable for your situation, please get in touch to discuss your needs.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your goals, circumstances and the issues you would like to address. Some clients seek support for a specific issue, while others prefer ongoing sessions to support longer-term personal development.
This will be discussed during your consultation.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Hypnotherapy is generally considered a safe and non-invasive approach when provided by a suitably trained professional. During our initial consultation, we will discuss your needs and determine whether hypnotherapy is an appropriate approach for your circumstances.
What is EFT?
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), often referred to as "tapping", is a technique that combines focused attention on thoughts or emotions with gentle tapping on specific points on the body. Many people find it helpful for managing stress, anxiety and emotional challenges.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. In addition to face-to-face appointments in South Queensferry and the Edinburgh area, online sessions are available for clients throughout the UK.
What happens during the first session?
Your first appointment will include an opportunity to discuss your goals, experiences and any questions you may have. Together we will explore what you would like to achieve and develop an approach tailored to your needs.
You will be fully informed about the process before any hypnotherapy takes place.
How should I prepare for a session?
There is very little preparation required. It can be helpful to think about the changes you would like to make and any goals you would like to achieve. Wearing comfortable clothing and arriving with an open mind can also help you feel relaxed.
Will hypnotherapy work for me?
Every person is different, and outcomes can vary. The most successful results are often achieved when clients are motivated, engaged in the process and committed to making positive changes.
During your consultation, we can discuss your goals and whether hypnotherapy is likely to be a suitable approach for your needs.
Is everything discussed confidential?
Yes. All sessions and communications are treated with the utmost respect, professionalism and confidentiality, subject to legal and professional obligations.
